This recipe makes about 5 cups gel food
Notes. I also added the following which are not reflected in the nutritional breakout:
- around 1/2 cup of mazuri aquatic gel food powder.
- a teaspoon of garlic powder (I don't think I'm going to add garlic powder again because it STINKS! and stinks up my hands when I feed the gel food)
Ingredients
- 5 cups bottled drinking water
- 7 packets unflavored gelatine
- 1 adult multivitamin
- 2 500 mg calcium carbonate tablets
- 4 250 mg vitamin C tablets
- 1 tsp paprika
- 6 tbsp calcium bentonite clay
- 1.5 cup frozen broccoli
- 1 cups frozen chopped spinach
- 1 can mustard greens
- 1 can turnip greens
- 1 tin sardines packed in water, drained
- 1/2 cup canned oysters
Add 3.5 cups water to blender. Place the vitamin C tablets, the calcium tablets, and the multivitamin in to soak.
Add sardines, oysters, paprika, clay and veggies to blender. Blend well.
For sinking food:
- Pour blended ingredients into bowl.
- Dissolve gelatine in cold water and bring to a boil to dissolve gelatine.
- Add gelatine mixture to bowl and stir until well mixed
- Pour into flat shallow container(s) to make a depth of 1/4".
- tap container gently to remove any trapped air bubbles.
For floating food:
- Dissolve gelatine in cold water and bring to a boil to dissolve gelatine.
- Pour gelatine mixture into blender and blend until well mixed.
- Pour into flat shallow container(s) to make a depth of 1/4".
Refrigerate until set.
Cut into squares. I leave out a week's worth of gel in a plastic zipper bag and store in the refrigerator. The rest I freeze between layers of plastic wrap. When frozen, I store in the freezer in ziplock bags (each holding about a week of food). You can make layers thicker than 1/4 inch and then slice it up before you feed it.
